House of Representatives spokesperson, lawyer Princess Abante reminded Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, July 21 that the latter is duty-bound to listen to President Marcos' State of the Nation Address (SONA).
"Bilang isang Vice President, dapat din kasama rin naman sa kanyang tungkulin na makinig sa magiging report ng ating Presidente (As a Vice President, it's also part of her duty to listen to what would be the President’s report)," Abante said in a press conference.
In the presser, Abante was asked whether or not the House--which hosts the President’s annual speech--was ready to receive Duterte in the event she changes her mind and attends the SONA on July 28.
"Ready naman ang House of Representatives (The House of Representatives is ready) to welcome all officials of the government to attend the SONA," the House mouthpiece said.
"The House of Representatives is ready to welcome for her to attend and listen to the report of the President," Abante added.
Vice President Duterte, a critic of the Marcos administration, earlier said that she won't attend next week's SONA.
Before her very public falling out with President Marcos, Duterte was an eager guest at the House for the Chief Executive's speeches in 2022 and 2023.
The 2025 SONA will have been the second one that Duterte skipped.
