The Marikina City local government raised the first alarm at the Marikina River on Monday, July 21, after the water level reached 15 meters due to continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat).

According to Marikina City Rescue 161, the city's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the water level of the river reached 15 meters at 12:25 p.m.
Once the water level reaches 16 meters, the 2nd alarm will be raised, wherein residents in low-lying areas, especially those near the river, will be advised to voluntarily proceed to designated evacuation sites.
A third alarm will be raised if the water level reaches 18 meters, and forced evacuations will be implemented in all affected areas.
