BAGUIO CITY – A shanty and a car were destroyed by a large rock that rolled down a mountain onto the road during heavy rain on Kennon Road, Camp 7, here, on July 19.
Charles Bryan Carame, officer-in-charge of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said nobody was injured, except for a dog who died after the animal was hit by the boulder.
The Baguio City District Engineering Office and barangay officials are working to remove the rock resting on the wrecked vehicle.
Affected property owners have been referred to the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office for assistance.
A stretch of Kennon Road remains closed due to "continuous rockfall at the entrance of the rockshed."
The CDRRMC, led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, continues to monitor incidents in various areas here, such as the landslide in Purok 2 Poliwes, monitoring and cleaning up garbage in the City Camp Lagoon to prevent flooding, and clearing up fallen trees that caused brownouts.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera said several roads in the region remain closed due to damage and landslides triggered by Crising.
Motorists were advised to take alternate routes to and from Baguio City via Marcos Highway and Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road.
The national road in Datakan, Kapangan, Benguet, was shut down due to road slip and scoured road pavement.
The Itogon-Dalupirip Road in Barangay Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet was closed due to a landslide. Clearing operations will begin on Sunday.
A landslide closed the Abra-Kalinga Road in Duldulao, Malibcong, Abra but reopened following a clearing operation.
The Abra-Ilocos Norte Road in Nagaparan, Danglas, Abra, the Claveria-Calanasan Road in Barangay Eva, Calanasan, Apayao, and Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road in Barangay Namaltugan, Calanasan, remain closed.
