Up to 2-meter storm surges expected in Batanes, Cagayan, and Ilocos Norte

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday, July 19, raised a storm surge warning in parts of Northern Luzon as Tropical Storm Crising continues to intensify and move west-northwest across the region.
In its Storm Surge Warning #10 issued at 8 a.m., PAGASA said there is a “minimal to moderate risk” of storm surges in the next 12 hours, particularly along coastal areas in the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, and Ilocos Norte.
A detailed list of high-risk municipalities has been provided by PAGASA.
“Residents along the coast are advised to take extra precautions due to high waves,” PAGASA said. Estimated storm surge heights may reach 1 to 2 meters, posing a threat of coastal flooding, especially during high tide.
PAGASA warned that storm surges between 1 and 2 meters can inundate low-lying coastal communities, damage property, and endanger lives. The agency strongly advised residents in affected areas to stay away from the shore and suspend all marine activities until further notice.
“The public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take appropriate actions and precautionary measures,” the weather bureau added.
PAGASA also urged local government units (LGUs), emergency responders, and the public to monitor official updates, with the next storm surge bulletin expected at 2 p.m.
