Marikina suspends all school-related activities on July 20
The local government of Marikina has suspended all classes and school-related activities in both public and private schools in the city on Sunday, July 20, due to the expected continuous rainfall brought by severe tropical storm (STS) "Crising."
Mayor Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro said the suspension applies to all levels with Sunday classes, whether face-to-face or online.
She added that school-related activities such as the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and the National Service Training Program (NSTP) are also covered by the suspension.
Teodoro said the safety and well-being of students remain a top priority, especially during severe weather conditions. She urged everyone to stay alert and continue monitoring official advisories from the city government.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), STS Crising moved out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday, July 19, but it warned that strong monsoon winds and rough sea conditions will continue to affect large parts of the country.
“Kaninang 11 a.m. ay tuluyan nang lumabas sa ating Philippine Area of Responsibility itong si Severe Tropical Storm na si Crising at sa kasalukuyan ay patuloy pa itong lumalayo sa ating bansa (At 11 a.m. today, Severe Tropical Storm Crising officially exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is currently continuing to move farther away from the country),” PAGASA weather specialist John Manalo reported.
Despite its exit, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will continue to bring hazardous conditions across several regions, especially in coastal and upland areas. It added that similar conditions are expected to persist through Sunday and Monday in most parts of Luzon and Visayas.
