A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Cagayan province Saturday morning, July 19, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its Earthquake Information No. 2, Phivolcs said the quake hit at 9:34 a.m., with the epicenter located 103 kilometers northwest of Calayan, Cagayan.
The agency said the tremor was tectonic in origin, meaning it was caused by the movement of the Earth’s crust rather than volcanic activity.
The quake was felt at Intensity I in Claveria, Cagayan, Phivolcs said.
No damage was expected from the quake, but the agency warned that aftershocks were possible.
