MaArte Fair announces record-breaking grants for Philippine museums

Experience the best of Filipino craft at this year's fair

The Philippines, an archipelago boasting over 7,000 islands, is a treasure trove of rich diversity and vibrant culture, beautifully showcased through the artisan works found across its many islands and provinces.
Bringing these age-old crafts together in one accessible location and raising public awareness about their wonderful, high-quality products has always been a challenge, primarily due to the country’s unique geography. This is precisely the gap the MaArte Fair seeks to close. It provides a vital platform for artisans to promote and sell their creations right here in Metro Manila. But the initiative’s commitment to cultural promotion extends further: Proceeds from the annual fair directly support the Museum Foundation of the Philippines Incorporated (MFPI), which, in turn, funds various projects and programs for museums nationwide.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the MaArte Fair, the signature fundraising event of the MFPI. From Aug. 7 to 10, 2025, The Peninsula Manila will once again come alive with the vibrancy and ingenuity of Filipino craftsmanship at its finest. The 2025 fair takes on a deeper significance, reflecting the foundation’s goal of “Cultivating Partnerships, Strengthening Legacy.”

Record-breaking grants announced
During the fair’s launch on July 15, 2025, at The Peninsula Manila, MFPI president Danny Jacinto announced the largest grants the organization has awarded to date—supporting nine programs and projects from various museums nationwide. Below is the complete list of grant recipients.
For the National Museum of the Philippines:
Architectural Arts and Built Heritage Division: Monograph, print materials, and ancillary activities for the exhibition entitled: “Art Deco: Modernity and Design in the Philippines 1925-1950”
Botany and National Herbarium Division: “Faces and Flora: The Philippine and Japan Native Flora” photography exhibition
Entomology Section, Zoology Division: Curation and preparation for publication of the Stanley Cabigas Coleoptera Collection at the National Museum of the Philippines
For other museums and organizations across the country:
Habi The Philippine Textile Council: A comprehensive abaca book that highlights the significance of our abaca fiber, both as a cultural treasure and an economic resource.
MCAD Museum of Contemporary Art and Design: Curatorial Conversations 2. This seminar will help young curators develop their practice through mentorship and discussions on key concepts in the thinking, development, and production of exhibitions.
CORDITEX. Cordillera Textile Project: In collaboration with various cultural offices in the University of the Philippines Baguio and through the MFPI, the project aims to reprint five children’s books and print two new storybooks to complete the “Agabel Tayo” series.
“Imelda Cajipe Endaya: Pagtutol and Pag-asa”: Cajipe Endaya’s retrospective exhibition in 2022, independently produced by herself with the editorial team.
“Art Weave at the Museum”: A collection of works by handweavers and visual artists from the Cordillera region, the exhibit is a celebration of an ever-growing tradition, connecting like tapestry threads to create a cohesive profile of the possibilities ahead for the craft.
Carlos “Botong” V. Francisco Studio-Museum: “Reflections of A Local Luminary: Botong, The Brown Man Of Angono.” It offers local and foreign visitors an immersive journey into the vibrant world of Carlos V. Francisco.
In an interview with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, Danny attributed these grants to the unwavering public support for the fair over the past 14 years.
“We have also given them the grants. And they were chosen based on the applications they sent to the foundation,” he stated. “The grants vary from scholarship programs, projects, and publication. This is our biggest grant so far and madadagdagan pa ‘yan (there’s more coming.”
Danny also promised that this 15th-year iteration would be the biggest MaArte to date, featuring hundreds of artisan brands from across the country, encompassing food, beverages, fashion, and more.
