DHSUD readies cash, home rebuilding materials for 'Crising' victims

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is now preparing the assistance package to tropical storm “Crising” victims who lost their homes during its onslaught in the country.
Citing the latest data, DHSUD Undersecretary for Disaster Response Henry Yap said a total of 276 houses were damaged by "Crising"--of which 34 were totally damaged while 242 others were partially damaged.
Yap said he already directed all Regional Offices (ROs) in the typhoon-affected areas to work closely with local government units (LGUs) and other government agencies for the delivery of post-disaster assistance.
“DHSUD's key shelter agencies are to exhaust all ways on how to assist the typhoon victims, and to immediately implement the same at the soonest possible time," said Yap.
"All regional officers in the typhoon-affected areas are directed to actively engage LGUs and other partner-agencies, and convene your respective shelter clusters immediately to determine the extent of assistance necessary," he added.
The DHSUD was tapped to lead the national government shelter cluster, tasked to provide post disaster housing assistance to victims of calamities.
The assistance includes the implementation of the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP) which provides unconditional cash assistance of P30,000 for families whose houses are totally damaged and P10,000 for those whose homes are partially damaged due to natural or human-induced disasters.
Also, DHSUD previously distributed home materials and essentials (HOMEs) to typhoon victims in Batangas and Bicol.
On the other hand, he said key shelter agencies, Pag-IBIG Fund, Social Housing Finance Corporation, the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation and the National Housing Authority, were also directed to also extend assistance to the typhoon victims.
The assistance, he said, may include amortization relief/breaks, community assistance on resettlement and project sites, provision of hygiene kits.
As immediate assistance, Yap said the DHSUD can also deploy shelter-grade tents that may be used as temporary shelters by the victims.
