Classes suspended in Manila due to flooding, heavy rains
The City Government of Manila has suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools on Saturday, July 19, following reports of flooding in several areas and the anticipated heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon.
The decision was made based on the recommendation of weather specialists from the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), who warned of continued adverse weather conditions throughout the day.
In an official advisory released by City Administrator Atty. Eduardo “Wardee” Quintos XIV, the public was informed of the class suspension, as mandated by Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 22, series of 2024.
The move aims to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel amid the inclement weather.
Local authorities urge residents to remain vigilant, monitor official announcements, and take necessary precautions against possible flash floods and traffic disruptions.
