TACLOBAN CITY – Guiuan, Eastern Samar Mayor Annaliza Gonzales-Kwan has issued an executive order banning the entry and exit of live hogs, pork, and by-products from areas declared by the Department of Agriculture infected with African Swine Fever (ASF) to contain its spread and protect the local hog industry.
The order was issued after a first confirmed case was logged in Barangay Bungtod.
The order includes a Test-and-Destroy Protocol implementation, mandatory culling in ASF-infected zones, and surveillance and monitoring in all barangays.
EO 07-60, Series of 2025, urged residents to report unusual hog deaths or symptoms to their barangay or the Municipal Agriculture Office.
The EO signed on Friday activated animal quarantine checkpoints composed of barangay officials and watchmen.
“The checkpoint shall be visible and operational for 24 hours per day at the designated locations. This checkpoint shall remain operational until officially lifted by this Office upon recommendation of the Municipal AS Task Force and the Office of the Municipal Agricultural Services,” Kwan said.
