Signal No. 2 to be raised once 'Crising' intensifies into tropical storm, says PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Thursday, July 17, that higher wind signals are expected over parts of Luzon as tropical depression “Crising” nears tropical storm strength.
As of 10 p.m., Crising had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center, with gusts reaching up to 70 kph.
Crising will be upgraded to a tropical storm once its maximum sustained winds reach between 62 and 86 kph.
It is forecast to reach tropical storm status early Friday morning, July 18, and may intensify further into a severe tropical storm by Saturday morning or afternoon, July 19.
Currently, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is hoisted over the following areas:
* Batanes
* Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
* Isabela
* Apayao
* Abra
* Ilocos Norte
* Ilocos Sur
* Kalinga
* Mountain Province
* Ifugao
* Benguet
* La Union
* Quirino
* Northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao, Baler, Maria Aurora)
* Nueva Vizcaya
* Northern portion of Pangasinan (San Nicolas, Natividad, San Quintin, San Manuel, Tayug, Sison, San Fabian, Pozorrubio, Laoac, Binalonan, San Jacinto, Manaoag, Mangaldan, Dagupan City, Binmaley, Lingayen, Labrador, Sual, City of Alaminos, Bolinao, Anda, Bani, Agno, Burgos, Mabini, Dasol, Calasiao, Santa Barbara, Mapandan, Bugallon)

Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are expected in areas under Signal No. 1.
PAGASA noted that once Crising intensifies into a tropical storm, the wind signals will likely be raised to Signal No. 2 over Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, and the northern portions of Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, and Isabela.
Should the forecast track shift further north, the southern portion of Batanes may also be included.
As of Thursday evening, the center of tropical depression Crising was located 460 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, moving northwestward at 15 kph.
The storm is expected to continue moving generally northwestward over the next 24 hours, with a possible landfall over mainland Cagayan or Babuyan Islands by Friday afternoon or evening.
Afterward, it is projected to move west-northwestward, crossing the northern part of Northern Luzon before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday afternoon or evening.
Rainfall forecast
PAGASA also warned of moderate to torrential rainfall caused by Crising and the southwest monsoon (habagat).
From Thursday evening until Friday evening, torrential rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters (mm) is expected in Cagayan and Isabela.
Heavy to intense rainfall between 100 and 200 mm is forecast in Apayao, Kalinga, Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Iloilo, Guimaras, Antique, and Negros Occidental.
Moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 mm is expected in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Cebu, Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur.
From Friday evening to Saturday evening, torrential rainfall may continue in Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
Heavy to intense rains are expected in Batanes, Cagayan, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique.
Moderate to heavy rainfall will persist in Ifugao, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, Laguna, Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental.
From Saturday evening to Sunday evening, July 20, heavy to intense rainfall is expected to prevail over Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
Moderate to heavy rains may affect Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Metro Manila, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, and Oriental Mindoro.
PAGASA advised residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against flooding and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous communities.
