The PSEi climbed back to the 6,300 level on mild bargain hunting spurred by gains in United States (US) bourses.
The main index added 8.17 points, or 0.13 percent, to close at 6,303.72. Sectoral indices were evenly split. Volume rose to 1.66 billion shares worth ₱8.43 billion, as losers outnumbered gainers—104 to 93, with 53 unchanged.
“US equities continued their upward trajectory with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite hitting fresh record highs,” said Regina Capital Development Corp. Managing Director Luis Limlingan.
He added that, “Strong corporate earnings reports from various key companies like PepsiCo and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., along with strong economic data on retail sales and jobless claims, increasing investors’ sentiments.”
Limlingan said investors remained careful about the potential updates on tarrifs as the negotiations will take place early next week.
Philstocks Financial Research Manager Japhet Tantiangco said, “The local market bounced back as investors hunted for bargains following three straight days of decline. The positive cues from Wall Street also helped in today’s rebound.”
