LAOAG CITY – Disaster response officials in various parts of Ilocos Norte have been checking landslide and flood-prone areas as tropical storm ‘’Crising’’ continues to bring light to moderate to at times intense rainfall in the province on Friday.

"Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay alert," Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Marcell Tabije said.
As of 2 p.m., Ilocos Norte is under tropical cyclone wind Signal No. 2, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). A red rainfall warning was hoisted over the province, indicating threats of serious flooding in flood-prone areas.
Ilocos Norte Gov. Cecilia Araneta Marcos on Thursday ordered that all response assets and personnel be on standby. She suspended classes and work in government offices on Friday except those in the frontline services during emergency situations.
In Dingras town, Mayor Joemelle Saguid-Go Sy mobilized her quick response team along with the Philippine National Police to reach low-lying barangays to deliver relief goods.
"Even before the winds blow stronger and the rain begins to pour, the municipality of Dingras is already moving," she said in a statement on Friday, as she led the delivery and distribution of relief goods in Barangay San Marcelino.
Sy reminded her constituents to stay vigilant, monitor official advisories, and take all necessary precautions to remain safe.
In Pagudpud town, heavy equipment and maintenance crew of the Department of Public Works and Highways are on standby to respond particularly in the landslide-prone area along Manila North Road in Sitio Banquero in Barangay Pancian.
Engr. Cynthia Iglesia, senior weather specialist and chief meteorological officer of the Northern Luzon PAGASA Regional Services Division, has called on all concerned local disaster response agencies to ensure that the ban on sailing, fishing, and swimming activities is imposed on areas with storm surge warning.
The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) announced Friday that all INEC line crew are on standby in their area offices for possible power restoration efforts. (PNA)
