Aumentado congratulates Uy for appointment as Cebu archbishop
CEBU CITY – Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado congratulated Bishop Alberto Uy after the Boholano prelate was named as the new archbishop of Cebu.
While saddened by the impending departure of the Tagbilaran bishop, Aumentado said he was happy with the appointment of the 58-year-old Uy as the fifth archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
“It is saddening because we will not be seeing you more often in Bohol but we are happy and proud with your new destination because it is also an opportunity for us to deepen the relationship of Bohol and Cebu,” said Aumentado.
Born in Ubay, Bohol, Uy replaced Archbishop Jose Palma, who reached the canonical retirement age of 75 on March 19.
The date for the installation and canonical possession of the archdiocese has not yet been set, said Fr. Junel Fuentes, director of the Cebu Archdiocesan Digital Communications Ministry.
“This matter still needs to be discussed with the relevant authorities. What we can confirm is that the newly appointed archbishop is required to take possession of the archdiocese within two months from the receipt of his appointment,” Fuentes said.
