Aberin: 911 call prevents violent road rage in Marikina, armed motorcycle rider arrested
Police prevented what could have been a bloody road rage confrontation between a gun-wielding motorcycle rider and a four-wheel vehicle driver in Marikina City on Thursday afternoon, July 17.
Thanks to a concerned citizen call to 911, according to Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, who said that police response within three minutes prevented a possible gun attack as the rider had already pulled out his 38 revolver.
“This is proof of the effectiveness of the 911 hotline and the dedication of the responding personnel. Because of the 911 call, our personnel immediately responded within three minutes and this resulted in the arrest of the suspect,” said Aberin.
Citing a result of the investigation, Aberin said it all started when the motorcycle rider, who turned out to be a security guard, repeatedly honked at the vehicle of the victim to overtake.
The victim got irked as police said there was a traffic congestion in the area.
This resulted in road rage, with the motorcycle rider tailing the victim’s car and even went near the driver’s side to curse at him.
The confrontation happened in a gasoline station at the corner of JP Rizal and Kingsway Stret in Barangay Concepcion Uno where the suspect pulled out his gun before punching the victim.
Policemen from Sector 6 of the Marikina City Police Station arrived at the scene but the suspect tried to flee. The latter, however, was later subdued.
“This incident shows the true value of Chief PNP’s 5-minute response time initiative. NCRPO will continue to strengthen our actions in line with the 911 emergency response system to ensure swift and effective police action in every corner of Metro Manila,” said Aberin.
National police chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III earlier vowed for a quick police response via 911 call. Part of the program is the deployment of as many policemen in strategic roads and areas.
