Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez announced that the city government, through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), is well prepared for any calamities that may occur, especially this rainy season.
Olivarez said that in recognizing the urgency of mitigating risks in flood-prone areas, 16 barangays in the city are well-equipped with a flood mitigation sub-station and complete resources.
He also stressed that with most of the city’s barangays situated in low-lying areas, the city is not only prepared for flooding but also for earthquakes and fire incidents.

The mayor also announced that the city has two evacuation centers, one in Palanyag and at C5, where evacuees will be brought to during calamities, whether they were victims of flooding or fire.
Olivarez said the evacuation center in C5 will be completed within six to eight months, while the one located in Palanyag, through the initiative of former Mayor Eric Olivarez and the City Council, will soon be completed.
He added that in the past, the city had to rely on multi-purpose halls and gymnasiums. But now, Paranaque City will have its own evacuation centers in C5 and Palanyag.
The mayor added that to boost emergency response, the city government distributed disaster kits to the city’s barangays.
He assured that these barangays can expect continuous support from the DRRMO to prepare and respond to any calamity that they may face.
