La Union 1st district Rep. Paolo Ortega says every detail will come out into the open if and when the House of Representatives launches an inquiry on the controversial Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach project.
Ortega was asked about his thoughts on the proposed dolomite beach inquiry, which was primarily being pushed by his House colleague Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon.
"Well, si Cong Terry may point siya (Cong Terry has a point). He knows his stuff," Ortega said of Ridon.
Ridon is a former appointee of the previous Duterte administration, which green-lit the creation of the artificial beach.
"Sabi ko nga sa inyo lahat naman 'yan may plano may paper trail. So, if we conduct or open an investigation lalabas naman iyan, makikita natin yung actual cost, pati nga kung saan nanggaling yung mga supplies," Ortega said.
(Like I said, all of that has a plan and a paper trail. So if we conduct or open an investigation, it will come out, we’ll see the actual costs, even where the supplies came from.)
"Makikita naman natin lahat sa imbestigasyon and kung hindi satisfied then wait for the recommendation of the committee (We’ll be able to see everything through the investigation, and if they're not satisfied then wait for the recommendation of the committee)," he noted.
White-colored dolomite sand was used for the artificial beach in the Manila Bay Baywalk under a P389-million rehabilitation program.
Ridon, in his House Resolution (HR) No.56, urged the House Committee on Public Accounts and other appropriate committees to conduct a full probe, in aid of legislation, on the dolomite beach project, which the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) had tagged as a direct contributor to the persistent flooding in the city of Manila.
"I’m sure it will be tackled,"Ortega said, adding that the measure will first be referred to the House Committee on Rules.
"So ibalik natin sa tamang pag-iimbestiga para tama rin yung resulta saka tama rin yung recommendasyon na mabibigay natin (So let’s bring it back to proper investigative procedure, so that the results are accurate and the recommendations we give are sound)," the second-termer said.
