Motor vehicle owners have no more reasons to use fake plates as the backlog problem was already wiped out, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Thursday, July 17, as it warned of intensified campaigns against manufacturers and sellers of bogus license plates.
Acting LTO chief Greg G. Pua, Jr. said those who are still waiting for their plates need to use the LTOTracker, a digital platform that allows users to check the status of plates and to choose home delivery.
“We already have plates for every motor vehicle owner and right now, we are focusing on immediate distribution of these plates to their owners. In fact, we have already downloaded millions of license plates down to the regional level for distribution,” said Pua.
Last week, LTO personnel and operatives of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) arrested four people for manufacturing and selling fake license plates during an operation in San Ildefonso Bulacan.
Pua said they are continuously coordinating with the PNP amid the intensified monitoring against those who advertise fake plates on social media platforms.
“We are warning those engaged in this illegal activity that we will use the full force of the law against you,” said Pua.
