KALIBO, Aklan – Tropical depression “Crising” halted classes for more than 418,000 students in Western Visayas region on Thursday, July 17.
The Department of Education-6 reported that 1,322 schools in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as in the regional capital of Iloilo City suspended classes due to heavy rain and flooding.
DepEd-6 Information Officer Hernani Escular Jr. said classes switched to Alternative Delivery Mode.
Iloilo had the highest number of students affected with 185,597 in 576 schools in 21 municipalities and the component city of Passi.
Affected in Antique were 131,833 students in 539 schools in 18 towns.
In Iloilo City, 77,686 students in 66 schools were affected.
In Capiz, 23,329 in 141 schools in five municipalities did not have classes.
