DSWD prepares P273-M relief goods in Bicol
On-duty personnel are prepared to respond at any time while off-duty personnel are on standby in case immediate response to any emergency is needed.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rebecca Battung issued a memorandum directing the 12 district hospitals and Health Emergency Response Teams (HERT) to immediately implement the prescribed Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) guidelines and make the necessary preparations.
The Provincial Health Office urged the public to remain vigilant, follow authorities' advisories, and immediately go to the nearest health facility if medical assistance is needed.
Crising will move northwest over the next 48 hours and a landfall scenario over mainland Cagayan on Friday night to early Saturday morning is possible.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices were advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.
Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to hazards were advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol has over 254,000 family food packs on standby in various warehouses in the region for Crising.
Claudio Villareal, chief of DSWD-5 Disaster Response Management Division, said the total worth of available relief resources reached P273 million, including food items ready for distribution.
"Following the blue alert status issued by the Bicol Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, we have activated our quick response team. Under the direction of our Regional Director, Norman Laurio, the team is tasked with closely monitoring their respective areas of responsibility," he said.
Crising is forecast to bring heavy rains in provinces in the Bicol region – Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate.
Villareal said non-food items were likewise put on standby, 1,274 sleeping kits, 9,252 family kits, 5,188 sets of hygiene kits, and 4,994 kitchen kits.
DSWD-5 has a standby fund of P789,114 for additional purchase of food and non-food items.
The Department of Health in Bicol reminded the public to prepare "Go" bags for emergencies.
A Go bag should contain important documents that are safely sealed, flashlight, candle, match, whistle, portable radio, extra batteries, first aid kits, money, sanitary supplies, and ready to eat food and bottled water that would last three days. (with PNA)
