Strong Group Athletics continued its dominant performance in the 44th William Jones Cup after shooting down Australia United, 91-75, to go four in a row at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium in Taiwan Wednesday, July 16.
Halfway through its title defense in the annual meet, SGA kept its foot on the pedal and seized its biggest lead in the second half, 86-67, which was enough to leave Fil-Aussie James Spencer and his Australian teammates in the dust and keep its record pristine behind current leader in Bahrain (5-0).
Australia, meanwhile, absorbed its third loss in five games.
The Philippine-based club faces Chinese Taipei White next on Thursday, July 17.
Andre Roberson shone for SGA after collecting 16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and one steal in less than 20 minutes of action. Tajuan Agee and Ian Miller contributed 12 points each.
Ange Kouame followed them in the scoring column with 11, while Dave Ildefonso had 10. Coming from a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Greece for a Jordan event, Kiefer Ravena shrugged off the jet lag and drilled three triples to post nine points.
Mac Stodart tried to lift the Aussies after listing 19 points, five rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block, while Spencer scored 11 points. However, their efforts weren’t enough to recover from the Philippine onslaught.
