DAVAO CITY – Davao City second district Rep. Omar Vincent Duterte called on the Muslim community to preserve and promote their cultural heritage through traditional food and customs during the 122nd Araw ng Barangay Tigatto celebration in Buhangin District on Tuesday, July 15.

A vibrant celebration of culture and heritage highlighted the event, with purok representatives showcasing their unique versions of traditional Bangsamoro delicacies like amik, panyalam, dodol, and other native treats in a colorful competition.

“These traditions are treasures that must be passed on to future generations. We must also ensure that future generations appreciate these delicious cuisines,” Rep. Duterte said.

The local community warmly welcomed Rep. Duterte, a former Barangay Buhangin captain. His continued presence and advocacy for inclusivity and cultural pride were met with appreciation, especially from Muslim residents.

“Even now that he is no longer the barangay captain of Buhangin but a congressman, he has never forgotten us,” Bai Shahara Magenda of the Kagan tribe said.

The event brought together community members to celebrate the rich culinary traditions of the Bangsamoro people, offering Tigatto residents and guests a taste of authentic Moro flavors passed down through generations.

Rep. Duterte emphasized that the celebration was a cultural display and  reaffirmed unity and identity among Davao City’s Bangsamoro communities.

He noted that such events serve as powerful reminders of the strength and resilience of indigenous and Muslim traditions within a rapidly modernizing society.

Rep. Duterte reaffirmed commitment to cultural preservation and vowed continued support for initiatives that honor diversity and heritage here.

“These traditions are not just about food—they are about who we are as a people,” Rep. Duterte said. “Let us continue to protect, celebrate, and pass them on.”
