The Low-Pressure Area (LPA) located 975 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon may develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, July 16.
If the weather system intensifies, it will be named “Crising.”
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the LPA is already bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms over parts of Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte as early as Wednesday.
The southwest monsoon or “habagat” is also expected to bring generally cloudy skies with a high chance of rain over Metro Manila, Oriental, Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Zambales, Bataan, and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.
The rest of Luzon will experience fair weather with occasional monsoon rain showers or isolated thunderstorms.
On Thursday, July 17, heavy to intense (100-200 mm) rainfall is expected to persist in Palawan, Antique, and Negros Occidental.
Moderate to heavy (50-100 mm) rainfall is also expected in Occidental Mindoro, Aklan, Iloilo, Capiz, Guimaras, Negros Oriental, Catanduanes, and Northern Samar.
From Thursday evening to Friday evening, July 18, heavy to intense rainfall is expected to continue in Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy precipitation may persist in Batanes, Apayao, Cagayan, Isabela, Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Aklan, Iloilo, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Oriental.
PAGASA warned of possible flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas, due to the LPA and habagat.
