BACOLOD CITY – Classes on all levels across Negros Oriental were suspended until further notice due to heavy rain and flooding caused by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and tropical depression “Crising.”
Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria issued an executive order on Wednesday, July 16, suspending classes.
The executive order aims to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and school personnel by preventing potential hazards posed by the inclement weather.
Sagarbarria cited the latest advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration that Negros Oriental is experiencing enhanced southwest monsoon which brings light, moderate, and at times heavy rains that may persist until the weekend.
“It is imperative to implement a localized cancellation or suspension of in-person classes at all levels as a precautionary measure to mitigate the potential risks associated with the inclement weather,” the governor stated.
The order also stated that local government units shall, among others, ensure and promote health and safety and preserve the comfort and convenience of their inhabitants.
Sagarbarria emphasized that the safety of the residents remains a top priority.
Residents were advised to stay updated through official channels and adhere to safety protocols during this weather disturbance.
Heavy rains have significantly affected various municipalities and cities within the province.
