ILOILO CITY – An environmental organization has backed the creation of the Iloilo Community Climate Response Hub (CCRH) which was launched on Tuesday here.
Greenpeace Philippines Country Director Lea Guerrero said that community-driven action is essential in shaping urban development while mitigating the impacts of climate change in the city and province of Iloilo.
While there is no physical space, the Iloilo CCRH is an avenue for efforts on climate change adaptation (CCA), disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), and delivering support to affected communities.
The launching of the Iloilo CCRH was a start for environmental groups, youth organizations, civil society, local governments, and the academe to work together.
Included in the initial core group are Greenpeace Iloilo Volunteers, Green Forum Inc., Green Eco-Warriors, Alerto by E. Yusay Elementary School, Homeless People’s Federation of the Philippines-Iloilo, Navallasca-Abendan Farmers Association, Current Shift, and the Iloilo Provincial DRRM Office.
Jarrah Brillantes of Greenpeace Iloilo Volunteers added that the Iloilo CCRH is also an avenue for gathering and sharing community-based data fitting for CCA and DRRM policy recommendations on the local and national level.
As part of the launching, the Iloilo City Heat Map report was released by Ulirat Collective and Greenpeace Iloilo Volunteers.
The Climate Change Prospects for Iloilo and the Visayas by Dr. Maria Laurence Jamero of the Manila Observatory Center and Climate Change and Its Impact on the Next Generation by Dr. Ronald Law of the Department of Health (DOH) were also discussed.
