A total of 4,236 infrastructure projects are now being carried out at the grassroots level under the “Local Government Support Fund (LGSF)’’ in a bid to provide responsive governance in the communities nationwide, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
The LGSF is a national government subsidy to local government units (LGUs) for critical infrastructure that supports basic services such as roads, water systems, health stations, and school buildings.
The DILG explained that the program empowers the LGUs, especially the barangays, to identify and implement projects based on local priorities.
“These include solar-powered water systems, local access roads, drainage systems, and multipurpose buildings, all implemented in partnership with national, regional, and municipal counterparts,’’ the DILG noted.
Out of the 4,236 projects, 2,228 are funded under the Financial Assistance to LGUs (FALGU), 1,840 under the Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP), 80 under the Support and Assistance Fund to Participatory Budgeting (SAFPB), and 88 under the Green Green Green Program (G3P).
In Barangay Castañas, Sariaya, Quezon, a solar-powered water system built under LGSF-FALGU now provides clean, reliable water to residents.
“Noon, mga poso lang ang gamit namin. Ngayon, meron na kaming patubig. Malaking tulong ito sa amin (Before, we only use water pumps. Now we already have an upgraded water supply system. This is a big help to us),’’ local resident Reynaldo Cabaysa.
In Barangay Canidkid, Montevista, Davao de Oro, a new concrete road under LGSF-SBDP has eased transport and improved access to services.
“We are truly grateful. It's cemented, and we no longer struggle,” habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) driver Bartolome Baredo.
Also, in Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte, the upgraded Level III water supply system under LGSF-SAFPB is addressing past waterborne illnesses and giving families peace of mind.
Mayor Runie Jamora said that the project brought hope to the community, adding that “this project solved the daily burden of water insecurity.”
Working closely with the LGUs and regional offices, the DILG assured that it is committed to completing these projects and ensuring long-term benefits.
“Additional funds will also be released this year to support barangay-level priorities, with strengthened oversight in top-performing and high-need areas,’’ the DILG said.
“Through the LGSF, the DILG reinforces its commitment to build strong, resilient communities. This is not just an infrastructure program, it is a movement to uplift every barangay, one road, one water system, one project at a time,’’ it continued.
