CIDG: P21 M worth of butane canisters seized in Bulacan raid
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized around P21 million worth of butane canisters in a raid on a warehouse in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.
CIDG director Brig. Gen. Romeo J. Macapaz said the raid was conducted as part of the campaign against illegal activities involving LPG.
In the case of the Bulacan raid on Monday, July 14, Macapaz said it was a result of the coordination made by the LPG Marketers/Corporations.
Armed with a search warrant, CIDG operatives and local police force swooped down on the warehouse in Barangay Pulong Buhangin and resulted in the confiscation of 4, 236 sacks containing a total of 423,600 empty butane canisters of different brands.
Butane is a colorless and flammable gas and is known for its ability to be easily liquefied and is commonly used as fuel, propellant, and in various chemical syntheses. It is popular among campers and those who love outdoor activities.
“The warehouse is found to have stored and reused the containers/canisters without proper authorization from the brand owners, thus, a blatant violation of law,” said Macapaz.
Macapaz said the seized items have an estimated market value of P 21.2 million.
Charges of violations of Section 2 of Republic Act 623 as amended by Republic Act 5700 (An Act to Regulate the Use of Duly Stamped or Marked Bottles, Boxes, Casks, Kegs, Barrels, and Other Similar Containers) are now being prepared against the owner and operators of the warehouse.
