BACOLOD CITY – Sixty-one cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) were recorded by the City Health Office (CHO) as of July 5.
Twelve out of 61 barangays have HFMD cases and Barangay Villamonte is No. 1 with 10.
Barangay Estefania has eight, followed by Barangay Mansilingan with six, five each in Barangays Singcang-Airport and Tangub, four in Barangay Granada, three each in Barangays Alijis and Vista Alegre, and two each in Barangays Banago, Cabug, Mandalagan, and Bata.
The age group with the highest number of cases is one- to 10-years-old with 48 cases. Twenty-five were female and 23 were male.
No fatalities were reported.
HFMD is common in children under five-years-old, but can also infect anyone. It causes fever, mouth sores, and skin rash, and is very contagious, though usually not serious.
The CHO reminded the public to maintain proper hygiene, including handwashing, disinfection, and seek early consultation.
