House "Hotshots" member Tingog Party-list Rep. Andrew Julian Romualdez has welcomed the surge in the House of Representatives' trust ratings during the tail end of the previous 19th Congress.
Rep. Andrew is the son of Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez, the House Speaker during the previous Congress. The latter is also Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president.
“This is a strong signal that our people want unity, competence, and real progress," the younger Romualdez said in a statement Tuesday, July 15.
"The House, under the Speaker’s leadership, has remained focused on these goals, and we in Tingog are fully committed to continue that work,” he added.
The results of the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey indicated an impressive 23-percentage point increase in the House's trust ratings. From April to June, the legislative chamber's trust score jumped from 34 percent to 57 percent.
The 19th Congress adjourned sine die or concluded last June 11.
Rep. Andrew's fellow Tingog nominee, Rep. Jude Acidre, similarly welcomed the SWS poll results.
“These results affirm the people’s trust in a House that has chosen to focus on legislation that uplifts lives and protects our future,” Acidre said.
“We are proud to serve under the leadership of Speaker Martin Romualdez, whose steady hand guided the chamber through challenging times while delivering meaningful reform,” he added.
The elder Romualdez is believed to be a shoo-in for the speakership in the current 20th Congress.
