For an affordable mobile phone, two alleged motorcycle-riding robbers lost their motorcycle, their helmets and their freedom after they were caught while on their way to escape after preying on a female vendor in Makati City at dawn on Tuesday, July 15.

But the arrest of the two motorcycle-riding robbers was a good riddance from the streets of Metro Manila especially that they yielded two handguns and even a grenade when they were collared at the corner of the Ayala Avenue Extension and Kamagong Street in Barangay Bel-Air, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin.

And for Aberin, thanks to that reliable radio that national police chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III wanted every cop to have as it led to good coordination and real-time sharing of information on the escape routes of the suspects to the members of the Tactical Motorcycle Riders Unit (TMRU).

“This arrest reflects the kind of swift and responsive policing. We will continue to act fast and act right—because the safety of our people will always be our priority,” said Aberin.

He said the pursuit operation started when the TMRU men were informed of the robbery of a female vendor on Malugay Street, Barangay San Antonio.

He said the victim arrived shortly after the arrest and positively identified both suspects and the motorcycle used in the robbery.

The arrested individuals—both male, jobless residents of Barangay Palingon Tipas, Taguig City—are currently facing multiple criminal charges, according to Aberin.

Police suspect that the two robbers were left with no choice but to prey on the female vendor after failing to get an opportunity to pull off a heist with a much higher loot due to police presence.

Aberin earlier ordered the deployment of more policemen on the streets, especially at night as crime deterrence and as part of the five-minute police response.

The arrest, according to Aberin, proved how rapid mobilization and precise coordination among field units can result in the immediate neutralization of criminal threats.

“As the NCRPO intensifies its anti-criminality drive across the region, the public is assured of continued police presence, intelligence-led operations, and unwavering commitment to public safety—delivered swiftly, decisively, and without compromise,” he said.
