Retired police general linked to missing 'sabungeros' denies allegation, to file charges vs whistleblower
A retired police general linked by a whistleblower to the case of “missing sabungeros” vowed to file criminal charges as he denied involvement both in the operation of the now banned online sabong and the disappearance of cockfighters.
Retired police lieutenant general Jonnel Estomo said his legal team is now preparing a legal offensive against Julie Patidongan, alias Dondon and also uses “Totoy” when he disclosed his involvement in the missing cockfighters.
“I categorically deny my involvement in any manner and I will present evidence to clear my name because there is no proof of my involvement. While I won’t get ahead of any investigation, I believe that truth shall prevail,” said Estomo in a statement sent to reporters.
“I am ready to answer any allegations at the proper forum to clear my name. I have faith in the impartial justice system and due process of the law,” he added.
Estomo was among the policemen implicated by Patidongan in the case of missing cockfighters whose bodies were allegedly dumped into the Taal Lake in Batangas.
He alleged that Estomo was among the “Alpha Group” which has been giving pieces of advice to Atong Ang.
Patidongan said the policemen were the ones who kidnapped the cockfighters accused of cheating or fixing cockfighting matches and dumped their cadavers to the lake.
During a press conference after filing the case before the National Police Commission (Napolcom) on Monday, July 14, Patidongan alleged that the policemen received “tons” of money from Ang whom the whistleblower earlier tagged as the brains behind the disappearance of the cockfighters.
Ang already denied the allegation and filed a case against Patidongan.
The national police leadership earlier said it placed under restrictive custody 15 of the policemen implicated in the missing cockfighters case.
Estomo used to head the PNP's Anti-Kidnapping Group and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
He later became the PNP's number three man, or as deputy chief for Operations and even became among the contenders for the top police post. He was later named as head of the PNP's Area Police Command-Southern Luzon.
