P28-M smuggled cigarettes seized, 2 suspects nabbed in Cavite

- Two suspects involved in the distribution of smuggled cigarettes across Cavite and nearby areas were arrested in a sting operation that yielded millions in contraband.
CAVITE – Authorities seized some P28 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and collared two suspects in a buy-bust operation in Trece Martires City, on Monday, July 14.
Police Regional Office 4A (PRO 4A) identified the suspects as alias Jamir, a 32-year-old resident of Carmona, and alias Bayaw, a 52-year-old Chinese national residing in Trece Martires.

Confiscated during the joint operation of the Regional Special Operations Unit 4A and the Trece Martires Component City Police Station, in coordination with the Bureau of Customs, were 800 master cases of various brands of smuggled cigarettes.
Also seized was approximately P1.4 million in cash, in various denominations, believed to be proceeds from the illegal trade.
Authorities also recovered bank transaction receipts, a van, and five winged container vans allegedly used in transporting and distributing the contraband.

Both suspects are now under police custody and are facing charges for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and the Graphic Health Warning Law.
PRO 4A director Brig. Gen. Jack L. Wanky commended the operating units that led to the arrest of the suspects, including a key figure in cigarette smuggling, not only in Cavite but also in neighboring areas.
