No threat from tropical depression east of extreme Northern Luzon, says PAGASA
New tropical cyclone could form east of Visayas-Mindanao area this week
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, July 15 said the tropical depression spotted east of extreme Northern Luzon remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is not expected to directly affect the country.
The weather disturbance was located 1,925 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon as of Tuesday morning and is moving away from the Philippines, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said.
Meanwhile, Badrina noted that PAGASA is closely monitoring cloud clusters east of Visayas and Mindanao that have the potential to develop into a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) on Tuesday or Wednesday, July 16.
This weather disturbance may intensify into a tropical cyclone later this week, which could bring rains to large parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
If the LPA strengthens into a tropical depression, PAGASA will assign it the local name “Crising.”
On Tuesday, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan, and Southern Leyte due to the southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience generally fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and only isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
On Wednesday, scattered rains and thunderstorms will continue over the western parts of Central and Southern Luzon, as well as in Visayas and Mindanao.
On Thursday, July 17, and Friday, July 18, scattered rains and thunderstorms are likely across the entire Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao due to the combined effects of the LPA and habagat.
By Saturday, July 19, these weather systems are expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the country.
