New LPA could become tropical depression Crising — PAGASA
PAGASA
A new Low-Pressure Area (LPA) formed inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, July 15, and may develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 3 p.m., the LPA was located 1,040 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said the weather system could strengthen into a tropical depression by late Wednesday, July 16, or Thursday, July 17.
If it does, it will be named “Crising.”
The LPA is already bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of Caraga, Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate.
Torres said more areas may experience rainfall in the coming days as the weather disturbance moves closer to the country.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon (habagat) continues to affect several areas, bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Zambales, Bataan, and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.
Torres warned the public of possible flash floods and landslides in areas vulnerable to these hazards due to continuous rains brought by the LPA and habagat.
