Magnitude 5.5 quake jolts Ilocos Norte on July 15 — Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, at 10:38 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15.
Phivolcs said the epicenter was located 21 kilometers southwest of Pasuquin, at a depth of 43 kilometers.
The tremor was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Bacarra, Laoag City, Pasuquin, and Vintar in Ilocos Norte, as well as in Cabugao, Sinait, and Vigan City in Ilocos Sur.
Intensity IV (moderately strong) shaking was reported in Batac City, Paoay, and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte and in Banayoyo, Bantay, Caoayan, Magsingal, San Ildefonso, San Juan, Santa Catalina, and Santo Domingo in Ilocos Sur.
Areas that experienced Intensity III (weak) tremor included San Isidro in Abra; Baguio City, Itogon, and La Trinidad in Benguet; Banaue in Ifugao; Bontoc and Sagada in Mountain Province; and Nagbukel, Narvacan, San Esteban, and San Vicente in Ilocos Sur.
Meanwhile, Intensity II (slightly felt) shaking was recorded in Alilem, Burgos, Candon City, Cervantes, Gregorio del Pilar, Quirino, San Emilio, Santa, Santa Cruz, Santa Lucia, Santa Maria, Santiago, Sigay, Sugpon, Suyo, and Tagudin in Ilocos Sur.
The tremor was reported at Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Galimuyod, Lidlidda, and Salcedo in Ilocos Sur.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
It urged the public to remain vigilant due to the possibility of aftershocks.
