LTO orders rider to explain viral 'Superman' motorcycle stunt
BACOLOD CITY – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Western Visayas has ordered explanation from the registered owner of a Honda Click motorcycle following a viral video showing the rider executing a risky “Superman” stunt on Orange Cliff in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on Sunday, July 13.
The agency, through Shiela Mae Alulod, head of the LTO‑Western Visayas Intelligence and Investigation Unit, issued a show‑cause order approved by LTO-Western Visayas Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II.
It cited Section 48 of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code on reckless driving.
Under this provision, “No person shall operate a motor vehicle, recklessly or without reasonable caution, so as to endanger the safety of any person,” the LTO said.
Alulod warned that such stunts “pose serious risks to public safety” and may result in the suspension or revocation of the motorcycle’s registration and the rider’s driver’s license.
The rider has five calendar days from receipt of the notice to submit a written explanation under oath, detailing the circumstances of the July 13 incident and why administrative sanctions should not apply.
Geduspan said the show‑cause order reaffirms their commitment—under Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and acting Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Greg Pua Jr.’s enforcement campaign—to hold reckless riders accountable.
He added that they will review all available evidence before deciding on any penalties.
Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu emphasized the broader road safety message. “Stunts like 'Superman' on public roads endanger lives,” Conlu said, as he urged all motorists to obey traffic laws and prioritize safety, especially on mountain passes where conditions can be unpredictable.
The LTO-Western Visayas will continue monitoring social media for similar violations and work closely with local law enforcement to deter dangerous driving behaviors throughout the region.
