The cast of 'Godspell'
This July 26 and 27, the hit musical “Godspell” will hit the stage in Alabang, at the Insular Life Theater in Filinvest. It features a musical score written by Stephen Schwartz, who also composed the music for Broadway hits “Pippin” and “Wicked” and the film ‘The Prince of Egypt”, among others. “Godspell” is a pop/rock retelling of the Gospel according to St Matthew. Still, at its core, it is also a show about the importance of building community and of treating others with kindness, compassion, and love.
The show is being produced by the Rude Mechanicals Theater Company (Rude Mechs) for the benefit of the Tuloy Foundation, specifically for its Performing Arts Program. This program aims to identify and train underprivileged children who show potential in Dance, Drama, or Music with the aim of future careers in this field. It has had considerable success in the field of Dance with many of its graduates now professionally dancing with ballet companies both here and abroad. The program hopes to replicate and expand this success in Theater and other disciplines.
The show is a Community Theater performance that features Rude Mechs actors performing alongside students of Tuloy Theater. Tuloy Theater is a program where children from the foundation receive free theater training, subsidized by the Rude Mechs workshop. The workshop is a year-round paid program. Students of all ages who are in this program learn and train alongside the Tuloy Theater kids, creating an environment that is genuinely inclusive and accepting.
“Godspell” features Luigi Quesada and Reynard Sanchez alternating as Jesus and is directed by Deana Aquino and Joonee Garcia.
“Godspell” goes onstage on July 26 at 3 PM and 7 PM and on July 27 at 6 PM. Tickets are available at ticket2me.net. For information about Sponsorships, contact Farah at 09175637201.
