Over 250,000 housing units were committed by private developers across the country as more companies expressed willingness to fund the national government’s housing for poor and low-income earners, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) said.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the 250,000 units were the commitment of at least 42 private developers under the expanded housing program after the inclusion of horizontal developments or subdivision-like housing projects into the flagship program.
Aliling earlier pushed for horizontal developments or subdivision-like housing projects, as well as rental and incremental housing.
"With the approved exclusive housing programs by the Pag-IBIG Fund, we can expect more active private sector participation and simplified processes for our beneficiaries. Hence, a more inclusive and sustainable program," Aliling said.
“We can consider it done, we just have to monitor and assist developers who are already committed to supporting us,” he added.
According to Aliling, the revitalized and increasing private sector participation to the Expanded 4PH reflects growing trust in DHSUD’s leadership and credibility: “Private stakeholders are more willing to engage when there is clarity, and fairness in government programs.”
