The Philippine Blu Girls opened their campaign at the Women’s Softball Asia Cup 2025 in style by drubbing Southeast Asian rival Thailand, 15-1, in Xian, China on Monday, July 14.
Trailing 0-1 after the first inning, the Blu Girls stormed back to life with right fielder Roma Jane Cruz delivering a three-run home to left center that sparked an explosive 11-run barrage in the second that set the tone for the crew.
Glory Alonzo and Sydney Vitangcol then closed out well in the final two innings to seal the win.
Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier lauded the team’s strong start.
“I am profoundly proud of our Blu Girls for their incredible performance today. Their determination and teamwork truly reflect the fighting spirit of Filipino athletes,” said Lhuillier, also the CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.
“This dominant victory sets a strong tone for the rest of the tournament, and we remain hopeful for even greater success in the coming games,” he added.
The Blu Girls are battling South Korea and powerhouse Japan at press time as they eye a Top 3 finish in the tournament to seal a place in next year’s World Cup.
A Top 8 effort will also punch them a ticket to the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan next year.
