Manila 6th district Rep. Bienvenido "Benny" Abante Jr. has advised Senator Imee Marcos to help her own brother, President Marcos, in efforts to further develop the Philippines.
"Palagay ko mas maganda kung makakatulong siya sa kanyang kapatid sa development ng bansa natin (I think it would be better if she could help her brother in developing our country)," Abante said in a press conference Tuesday, July 15.
Abante had this to say about Senator Marcos amid reports that she intends to hold a Senate investigation on the death of Rustan's department store chain administrator and heir to the retail empire, Paolo Tantoco.
"Eh kung gusto niyang gawin yun (If she wants to do that then) it’s up to her, if that’s what she wants to do," Abante said, referring to the presidential sister, a known critic of the Marcos administration.
It is Senator Marcos who has been insinuating that the President’s wife, First Lady Liza-Araneta Marcos may know something about the circumstances of Tantoco's passing.
During the 2025 mid-term elections, the President Marcos-led Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial ticket carried Senator Marcos to help in her reelection bid.
However, the lady senator walked away from the administration slate in the middle of campaign period, citing political differences.
