There is nothing wrong with the Supreme Court (SC)’s impeachment-related orders to both chambers of Congress, but these should not stop the trial from being carried out immediately.
Thus, said Manila 6th district Rep. Benny Abante on Tuesday, July 15, following the high court’s order to the House of Representatives and the Senate to make their respective comments regarding the status of the first three impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
For Abante, the SC only wants to be informed of the facts surrounding the case, including the exact date when the complaints filed and endorsed.
"We really respect the wisdom of the Supreme Court on this. Ang ano lang naman, ang Supreme Court gusto lang to (It's just that the Supreme Court wants to) inform properly what is happening sa (on the) impeachment," he said.
Still, he believed that such an order must not hinder the Senate sitting as an impeachment court and the House prosecution panel from proceeding forthwith with the trial.
"Dito sa Kongreso naniniwala ako (Here in the Congress, I believe) that the impeachment process must continue. Continuing naman to, hindi naman to kasama sa tinatawag nating (It does not belong to the) legislative but it is a continuing process," he said.
"Dapat lamang na hindi i-delay ng Senado (The Senate should not delay it), we submitted the impeachment complaint to them. Nabasa nila yan at nakita talagang dapat imbestigahan (They've already read it and they saw that it needs to be investigated)," he added.
