GOV. LACSON (FB)
BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson condoled with the family of 49-year-old Leah Mosquera, a resident of San Enrique town, who died in a missile attack on Rehovot, Israel on June 15.
“It is very unfortunate,” Lacson said in Monday’s phone interview with the Capitol media here.
Lacson cited a report that Mosquera fought for her life but the injury she sustained was just too much for her.
The governor said that the provincial government will provide assistance to her family. He is coordinating with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for the amount.
San Enrique Mayor Jilson Tubillara said that Mosquera was a former barangay treasurer of Barangay Guintorilan before she worked abroad for about 17 years with her sister.
The mayor, who personally knows Mosquera, recalled that she was an active and hardworking staff of Barangay Guintorilan.
He said they have no information yet when her remains will be transported back to her hometown.
Tubillara said the municipal government will extend assistance to Mosquera’s family.
Mosquera is the second overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from the province who was killed in the conflict, following 49-year-old Loreta Alacre of Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental in 2023.
PESO activated its OFW Help Desk to respond to concerns and requests from residents with relatives in affected areas. Nobody has decided to go home yet.
