Manila City Jail Annex personnel intercepted around 12 plastics of tobacco concealed in local sweetened banana snacks “turon and maruya’’, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.
On Sunday, July 13, the jail visitor alias ‘Jen’ was caught trying to smuggle the contraband inside the Manila City Jail Annex facility.
The visitor admitted her wrongdoing and is now the subject of a ban from entering the facility, in accordance with the visitors' regulatory board, according to the Manila City Jail.
“This incident serves as a strong reminder that we mean business when it comes to facility security,’’ the BJMP noted.
The BJMP-National Capital Region stated that its personnel are highly vigilant “and we have strict protocols in place to ensure no contraband gets through.’’
Violations will always lead to immediate and serious consequences, including permanent visiting bans or even criminal charges. We're committed to keeping our facilities safe for everyone,’’ the BJMP-NCR continued.
