A 61-year-old Filipino female passenger was flagged at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City on Saturday, July 12, after she allegedly yielded P1.2 million in undeclared cash concealed in her luggage.
The passenger came from Nueva Ecija and was bound for Hong Kong when she was flagged by x-ray operators from the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) during routine baggage screening at NAIA Terminal 3 around 1 a.m.
According to the initial investigation, airport inspectors detected an image resembling bundles of cash in her trolley bag.
This prompted personnel from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) to conduct a manual inspection of the luggage, which led to the discovery of the undeclared money.
The cash and the passenger were placed under the custody of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for serial number identification and further investigation.
