BACOLOD CITY – A fire destroyed the two-story building of a cable and internet service provider in Barangay Poblacion 1, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, July 12.
Damage to property was estimated at P3.8 million.
Fire Officer 2 Ian Dave Defiño, chief of the Investigation and Intelligence Unit of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Sagay, said the fire broke out from the storage facility on the second floor at 2:39 p.m.
Employees were on the ground floor when they noticed thick black smoke from the second floor, prompting them to leave the premises before the fire reached the ground floor.
Defiño said the fire reached the second alarm due to combustible material on the second floor, including cable wires and receipts, that made it difficult for them to enter the building.
Neighboring fire stations in Escalante and Cadiz cities as well as fire volunteers, also responded to the fire.
No injuries were reported and fire out was declared at 5:24 p.m.
Defiño said that the incident resulted in no signal for internet and cable television in Sagay and Escalante City.
Connection was only restored in E.B. Magalona and Victorias City on Saturday afternoon.
Defiño said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
