After 25 years, OPM icon Marco Sison returns to the concert scene via his major solo show entitled "Seasons of OPM," which will be held at The Theater at Solaire on July 25.
During a media conference in Quezon City, Marco shared his excitement when Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda agreed to be part of his concert.
"I took advantage of what Vice said when I became a hurado (judge) for 'It's Showtime.' Sabi niya, 'Gusto kong maging guest sa concert ni Sir Marco at makipag-duet sa kanya. (I want to be a guest at Sir Marco's concert and do a duet with him.) Vice mentioned that on national TV," Marco said.
So ngayon pa lang Vice, from the bottom of my heart, maraming salamat sa pag-accept mo na mag-guest sa concert. Thank you, Vice," (I said, 'Okay, promise me that. I invited him and he didn't refuse. He's kind and willing to help. So for now, Vice, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much for accepting to be a guest at the concert)," Marco said.
He shared his preparations for the concert with Vice. "Pinapili ko sya kung gusto niyang mag solo, spot number or duet kami. So nagsubmit na ako ng storya na pwede naming gawin. Pero ang mga binigay ko sa kanya ay mga bagong kanta. (I let him choose if he wants to do a solo, a spot number, or a duet with us. So I submitted a story that we could do. But the ones I gave him were new songs.)"
Another highlight of the show would be a tribute to fellow 'Hitmaker' Hajji Alejandro, who passed away in April. "Meron kaming tribute nila Rey Valera and Nonoy Zuniga for Hajji Alejandro. Kakanta ako ng 'Nakapagtataka' as my tribute to Hajji."
Marco, 68, said Hajji never mentioned his health when the musical group "The Hitmakers" toured for several years.
"Hndi siya nagkukuwento sa sakit niya. Wala kaming alam or whatsoever. Kaya nagulat kami when I learned about his condition. (He doesn't talk about his illness. We don't know anything about it. That's why we were surprised when I learned about his condition)," he said.
Marco realized that Hajji's condition should serve as a wake-up call for everyone.
"Naging wake-up call din sa amin yung nangyari sa kanya. Sa lahat ng mga nanonood. At a certain age, kailangan mo na mag-check regularly para nalalaman mo ang condition ng body mo. (What happened to him was also a wake-up call for us. To all those watching. At a certain age, you need to check regularly so you know the condition of your body)," he said.
On what he missed about Hajji, Marco said: "I like his sense of humor. Marami ang hindi nakaka-alam na napakalakas ng sense of humor niya. (Many people don't know that he has a strong sense of humor.)
"Marami ang nagsasabi si Hajji mukhang suplado dahil madalas seryoso. Pero hindi. Kapag relax na siya sa'yo, doon na siya magpapatawa sa'yo. (Many people say Hajji looks stubborn because he's often serious. But he's not. "When he feels relaxed around you, that's when he's likely to make you laugh)," he said.
Marco praised Hajji for his contributions to their musical group over the years. "Malaki ng role ni Hajji sa Hitmakers group namin. Para namin siyang scriptwriter and director rolled into one. (Hajji plays a significant role in our Hitmakers group. For us, he's like a scriptwriter and director rolled into one.) He's a good performer.
On his health, Marco said: "Ako naman, when it comes to my health, wala pa naman problema. (As for me, when it comes to my health, there is no problem.) I'm health-conscious, and I monitor my health and go to the gym four times a week."
Marco blasted to the music scene when he won a singing contest in the now-defunct noontime show "Student Canteen" on GMA Network.
Since then, Marco has captured audiences with his remarkable voice, charm, and style. His hits include 'My Love Will See You Through,' 'Make Believe,' 'Si Aida, Si Lorna, o Si Fe,' and 'Always.' Marco's latest single is "Sabik Na Puso."
