Gubaton crowned Cotabato Kulayaan Queen 2025

KABACAN, North Cotabato — The Cotabato Kulayaan Queen 2025 pageant dazzled the University of Southern Mindanao auditorium here on Saturday evening, July 12, with vibrant performances and a strong message of inclusivity, unity, and pride.
Yuan Gubaton of President Roxas town was crowned the Cotabato Kulayaan Queen 2025 while Khiara Lumantao of Kidapawan City earned the title of Kulayaan Queen Charity and Jysn Sore of Pigcawayan was named Kulayaan Queen Tourism.
Actor and model Vin Abrenica serenaded the 23 candidates and made his way through the crowd, charming fans with a soulful performance before the coronation of the queens.
Now in its second year, the event is the province’s first and largest LGBTQIA+ pageant, launched under the leadership of Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza and spearheaded by third district Rep. Maria Alana Samantha Taliño Santos.
Santos reflected on how the initiative began as a simple idea—a dream to create a space of belonging for the LGBTQIA+ community in Cotabato. “Tonight, I don’t just see an event. I see a movement. I see courage. I see love. I see home," she said.
She said the project was first piloted in 2024, with humble beginnings that included free haircuts, manicures, and pedicures provided by the pageant candidates.
Santos added that with more events like the Cotabato Kulayaan Queen, they are hoping more visitors would take notice of what the province can offer, especially in programs that support marginalized sectors and all Cotabateños.
“What started as a simple idea—a dream to bring people together and remind each of us that we belong—has grown into something bold, vibrant, and deeply meaningful,” Santos said.
Santos said the program also champions public health and social advocacy—including Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome awareness campaigns and initiatives focused on the LGBTQIA+ community.
Santos thanked her mother, Gov. Mendoza, Vice Gov. Rochelle Marie Taliño-Taray, provincial officials, and the LGBTQIA+ community who helped make the event possible.
Mendoza, in a message read by the vice governor, expressed her full support to the activity and reaffirmed Cotabato’s commitment to being an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. “This is a proof that in the province of Cotabato, there is space for everyone."
The governor thanked LGBTQIA+ individuals for helping shape Cotabato with their creativity, passion, and love. “You deserve not only our recognition but our deepest respect,” Mendoza said.
Taray said this bold and beautiful celebration of diversity, self-expression, and courage reminds everyone that the LGBTQIA+ community is a vital part of the soul of the society.
