Farm Fresh bared its fangs once again by stunning All-Filipino champion Petro Gazz with a dominant 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 sweep for its second win in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour at the Capital Arena in Ilagan, Isabela on Sunday, July 13.
The Foxies dug deep and capitalized on the Angels’ sluggish offensive execution to secure their second straight victory in three Pool A outings.
The win was a fitting follow-up to their surprising triumph over the highly touted Choco Mucho Flying Titans just a day earlier.
Trisha Tubu led Farm Fresh’s charge with 15 points, including 13 attacks and the match-clinching hits, while Caitlyn Viray and Jolina Dela Cruz added solid support with 12 points apiece.
Dela Cruz, who registered 11 attacks, admitted it took time for the team to find its rhythm in the one-hour and 38-minute encounter.
“Sa umpisa medyo mabagal naming na-execute yung mga plays and instructions ni coach, pero unti-unti, nakuha naman namin. Patience lang talaga,” said Dela Cruz.
Petro Gazz’s sluggish offense was apparent, managing only 28 total attacks -- a stark contrast to the 43-kill performance that earned them their lone win in three matches.
Only Myla Pablo reached double digits for the Angels, finishing with 18 points in a losing effort.
Veteran Aiza Pontillas and Jonah Sabete were limited to six and five points, respectively.
Later in the day, PLDT bucked a third-set hiccup and turned back Choco Mucho, 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-17, to remain unscathed in three games.
Majoy Baron and Kianna Dy joined forces in providing a tough defensive wall at the net for the High Speed Hitters, conspiring for nine of the team’s 13 blocks to douse the offensive fire of the Flying Titans.
Jovielyn Prado and Kiesha Bedonia, meanwhile, took charge in the offense, combining for 25 kills to finish with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Dy also paced PLDT with 15 points, even as Baron added 14 points in the High Speed Hitters, who also leaned on the playmaking skills of Kim Fajardo, who delivered 29 excellent sets in the two-hour contest.
Choco Mucho absorbed its third defeat in four games despite the efforts of Ayesha Juegos, who poured 12 of her 13 points on attacks.
