BACOLOD CITY – A 52-year-old electric bike (e-bike) driver wounded in a random shooting incident in Silay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, July 10, passed away in a hospital on Saturday, July 12.
Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay police chief, confirmed on Sunday, July 13, the death of Fernando, a resident of Barangay Lantad, Silay City, at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here at 4 p.m.
Darroca said that they are coordinating with the victim’s family or the hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
The victim sustained a bullet wound in the abdomen when he was shot by two motorcycle-riding suspects in Barangay Lantad while sitting on his e-bike.
One of the suspects, 24-year-old Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Councilor RR from E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, surrendered to the police on Friday night, July 11.
Police identified RR as the motorcycle driver, while his companion, 34-year-old Mark, was the alleged gunman.
RR is now under police custody while Mark was killed in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Friday.
Mark was the subject of the operation in Cadiz City even before he was being hunted by the Silay police for the random gun attacks that also wounded two other persons – a security guard and an amusement park employee.
