NBI, LTO seize banned right-hand drive surplus vehicles in Davao City
A total of 33 surplus vehicles, 19 of which are the banned right-hand drive (RHD) units, were seized las Friday, July 11, by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Davao City.
Also arrested during the operation at the M and A Trading in Talomo district were two Cameroonian nationals who were identified by the NBI as Eric Bobonmeh Monkam and Ndeopgima Polowah Goodenought. The two foreigners are reportedly involved in the trading of RHD vehicles.
The NBI said the raid was conducted by its Southern and Eastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-SEMRO XI) led by Regional Director lawyer Arcelito C. Albao and LTO officials in Region XI.
It said that M and A Trading was found operating without the proper LTO accreditation for surplus vehicles trading and modification.
The two Cameroonian nationals have been charged with violations of Republic Act No. 85061, the law that prohibits the importation, distribution, sale, and use of RHD vehicles in the Philippines.
NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago said the Davao City operation is proof that the NBI is serious in the government’s efforts against the illegal RHD vehicles trading for public safety and national security.
